'Tis the season for snow tire questions here at Arapahoe Kia, as those of us in the greater Denver area prepare for winter. Many people who stop in to our dealership ask us if they need snow tires on their new Kia vehicle. That's why we've taken to our blog to answer your questions.
Basically, we feel it is never a bad thing to invest in a set of snow tires, particularly in our part of the country. Still, many people out there are unfamiliar with how these seasonal tires work, so we'd like to take a moment to explain.
Designed to give you extra traction when you need it most, snow tires have specialized "lugs" in the tread. These lugs help keep snow, slush and ice away from the surface of your tires, keeping your grip on the road strong. There's also many thin grooves in the tread called "sipes" that give the tires more contact with the road.
Snow tires are a big investment, so we recommend only using them in the winter months. That's because the more usage they get in non-winter conditions, the sooner they will wear down, losing tread and traction, and that's a sunken cost you don't need.
While it might be a big investment, snow tires are worthwhile. That's because we all want to stay safe on the roads, no matter the conditions, and no matter which Kia model you drive, from the Optima to the Sorento.
If you're interested in learning more about snow tires and fitting them to your Kia, stop in and see us during regular business hours or contact us online. Of course, you can always visit the Arapahoe Kia showroom, located at 9400 East Arapahoe Greenwood Village, CO 80112 to take a closer look at new Kia models, and set up test drives as well, as we'd be more than happy to answer any questions pertaining to all things Kia.
