2024 Kia EV9 Overview

While it’s been exciting to see all of the all-electric crossovers emerge on the market, options for drivers who want larger SUVs have been nonexistent. That is about to change with the all-electric Kia EV9, which is similar in size to the popular Kia Telluride. The EV9 will launch in 2023 for the 2024 model year and be available for reservations, test-drives and eventually direct purchases and leases through Arapahoe Kia. Kia has been rather tightlipped about the new vehicle since introducing it at the LA Auto Show several years ago, which means there’s still a lot we don’t know even months out from the launch. That said, we present this early all-electric Kia EV9 review as an opportunity to tell you what we do know.

Form factor is another area where we have official numbers. The EV9 is a four-door midsize SUV with a rear liftgate. The concept wheelbase was 122.0 inches, which we expect to be the case at launch as well. The official length of the vehicle is 197.4 inches, which is 16.45 feet and a bit bigger than the Telluride. Kia has also confirmed that all wheels will be alloy and that size will range from 19 to 21 inches.

The all-electric Kia EV9 is a three-row vehicle that will be available in both six- and seven-passenger configurations, which suggests an emphasis on passenger comfort over cramming as many seats in as possible. We also know that the EV9 will be highly customizable in terms of seating in that you’ll be able to reorient seats and even remove them. One area where we have hard numbers is cargo space. The EV9 is similar to the Telluride in that it provides a dedicated cargo area of 20.2 cubic feet. If you fold the rear seats flat to claim even more space, you can expand that to an impressive 81.9 cubes.

Many of the questions that inspired this all-electric Kia EV9 review have to do with charging and how long it takes in particular. What we do know is that the EV9 supports Level 1, Leve 2 and Level 3 charging. Level 1 charging isn’t ideal but a nice option to have in a pinch. Most EV9 owners will want to have a Level 2 charger at home, which will allow them to charge the EV9 to full overnight. Level 3 charging at DC fast-charging stations serving Denver Colorado will let you charge about 150 miles in 15 minutes.

You will have the option of both rear- and all-wheel-drive configurations at Arapahoe Kia serving Denver Colorado. RWD models will have a single electric motor. AWD models will have dual electric motors. You will also have the choice of either a standard- or extended-range battery pack. Upper range is at least 300 miles, and some industry sources have reported higher numbers. Single-motor models will make between 201 to 215 horsepower. Dual-motor vehicles will make 379 hp, and while it won’t be available at launch, Kia will be offering a performance edition that makes 576 hp.
