Vehicle Overview

KIA has released hybrids before, but not like the Niro. For the first time in the automaker's history, it has a standalone nameplate, instead of a hybrid version of one of its existing cars, like it has with the Optima. Debuting at the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show, the KIA Niro enters showrooms for the 2017 model year. There are five trims: FE, LX, EX, Touring Launch Edition, and Touring.

Exterior - 2017 KIA Niro

Unlike most standalone hybrids, which adopt a rather boxy hatchback bodystyle, the 2017 Niro possesses a sleek profile similar to modern-day crossover SUVs. A steel unibody construction ensures that the Niro is as sturdy as can be. The Niro has projector beam headlights that has integrated LED positioning lights, plus auto light control for conveniently turning them on or off depending on the amount of outdoor illumination. Other base-level standard exterior features include a rear spoiler, power mirrors, and a rear wiper. Upgrade to at least the LX to also get roof rails for extra cargo carrying capacity and rear combination LED lamps for a more striking appearance. LED daytime running accents on the headlights-as well as a pair of fog lights below them-are added once you get to the mid-level EX. Also, with the EX and higher, the power mirrors have folding and heating ability, as well as turn-signal indicators. Exclusive to the Touring is a power moonroof.
